I spent a day recently helping the members of the LibDem Society at York Uni as they welcomed new students to the university.  Freshers’ Fair is an enormous event and showcases the many societies and groups that students can join on the campus, covering such diverse areas as fencing,  all types of music, cocktails, chemistry, law, history and many, many more, including all the political parties.

We generated a lot of interest and I talked to many first years, who are starting on their new lives away from home, with a new world of opportunity opening up before them.  Some lively discussions were held and a lot of interest was shown, all of which is good for the future of democracy. 

I plan to attend a number of events held by LibDemSoc during the coming year and  will hope to meet many of those I talked to at Freshers’ Fair as they get settled into their university life.
