Ian was born and bred in Yorkshire and has lived in York since 1994, for most of that time in Wigginton.   Now in his third term as a councillor, he is Chair of the Economic Development and Transport Committee and serves on the Planning and Health Scrutiny Committees. His previous council experience includes being Chair of York’s Health Scrutiny Committee, serving on the Children’s Services panel, the Area Planning Committee and the Social Inclusion Working Group.

Ian is a long-serving governor at Headlands Primary School in Haxby and, as a link governor, he regularly spends time with the children in the classroom.  He supports the many events that are run at the school, including the summer fair and the Christmas concerts, which he particularly enjoys. Ian also works closely with local churches, community groups, Haxby Town Council and Wigginton Parish Council.

Ian’s professional career was in developing and writing business computing systems. The first 11 years were in the civil service, followed by about 15 years as a manager and company director and the last 15 years running his own consultancy company.   He is a qualified university and college teacher and has taught part time for about 20 years, including at York St John University.  Since retiring, Ian has completed further study, gaining a further degree. His spare time interests include singing, theatre, walking and spending time with his extended family
