The Theatre Royal held a Dance-a-thon recently to raise money for a lift for their new premises at the De Grey Rooms. They want to make the ballroom accessible to all, so that both disabled and able-bodied people can enjoy the wonderful ballroom. Everyone was sponsored and some people danced all day – there were different dance styles going on every couple of hours. I went to the Ceilidh, the last session in the evening, where about 60 people had great fun dancing to a traditional Irish band (although they actually came from Bad Bargain Lane!). Over £6,000 was raised by all the dancers and everyone enjoyed themselves in the process.
