Improved Road Safety at Mill Lane

by jonathanlancaster on 3 March, 2011

Residents have welcomed road safety improvements at the junction of Mill Lane/Sutton Road, where new traffic lights were installed after pressure from your local Lib Dem team.

Speeds on the stretch of Wigginton Road and Sutton Road near this junction have been far too great. There have been accidents and near misses at the junction for years and local residents have said for some time that traffic lights were needed. An extra benefit has been that, besides reducing traffic speeds and risk of accidents, the lights have also cut down peak time queues.

In Wigginton, besides helping to reduce traffic speeds at the junction of Mill Lane and The Village, the new crossing by the pond (also backed by your Lib Dem team) has helped children from the nearby Wigginton Primary School to get to school safely.

So far the improvements seem to have been a great success and local residents have told us how pleased they are that these road safety measures have been implemented.

Councillor Paul Firth said, “A solution to these problem has been needed for years and the situation has steadily worsened as local traffic has increased and traffic going to or from the Strensall and Towthorpe area has used these roads as a short cut. The new lights and crossing really do seem to have made a big difference in making this stretch of road much safer.”
