Haxby Library closed on the 16th of July. The Library had recently had an inspection, which identified some structural problems which meant that the library had to be closed for safety reasons.
In order to ensure local children can still take part in the summer reading challenge, the children’s library has a temporary home at Oaken Grove Community Centre.
The mobile library will be located at Oaken Grove every Saturday morning, and alternate Mondays and Fridays.
Until a more permanent solution is found, our nearest library is at New Earswick.
Lib Dem Cllr Nigel Ayre, council executive member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “As the council owns the building we will be working closely with Explore York to help ensure there will be minimum disruption for library users in the Haxby area.
“Together with the library service and the community we will be looking at all future options to ensure that local residents have continued library services.”
Ian and Sarah understand that Haxby Explore is one of the busiest libraries in the City, and want to make sure that this valuable service remains available to residents. We believe residents of Haxby and Wigginton should have local access to a library, both to enjoy reading and the other facilities and events offered by Haxby Explore.
