Farm Shop Appeal Dismissed

by on 1 March, 2011

An appeal against a City of York Council planning committee’s decision has been dismissed following a hearing.

The appeal by the owner of a former meat preparation room and shop premises in Mill Lane, Wigginton was made against a planning decision by City of York Council. Although the buildings in question had not been used since 1986, they were re-opened as a farm shop in May 2009 and a cafe was added two months later.  Enforcement action was taken after complaints were received from local residents.  The owner then applied to the City Council for a certificate of lawful use, which was refused, and an appeal was made against the refusal.

Local Lib Dem Councillor Paul Firth (who had given evidence at the appeal hearing) said, “We really want to encourage and promote local businesses, but it is vitally important for the community and everyone’s sake that they are set up in line with planning regulations.”
