Sainsbury’s Licensing Concern

by on 7 December, 2010

The Lib Dem Focus team, along with many local residents, were concerned to learn that, having acquired the old Nisa Extra store, Sainsbury’s had made a licensing application to sell alcohol from 6am to midnight and for a refreshment certificate, to serve refreshments untill midnight.

In our initial representation, we pointed out that our community has worked very hard over the years to stamp out anti-social behaviour and such hours would go against the effort which has been put in. Additionally, the retailing centre of Haxby is mixed up with residential properties so there is an additional need to take care.

Sainsbury’s amended the application to the hours which existed before, 7am to 11pm and withdrew the refreshment certificate application.

I am very pleased that we have maintained the status quo. It is important for the community to work together to ensure the efforts of residents, councillors, the police and others are not undermined.
