Haxby’s annual Carnival took place on 9th July, despite worrying forecasts of rain and thunder. By mid-morning, stalls were being set up on Ethel Ward Playing Fields and, although there were some early showers, into the afternoon it stayed dry and even warmed up as time went on. The opening procession went through the village and included the Scout band with many local children in fancy dress. Vale Radio, who are based at Haxby Memorial Hall, acted as MC during the day.

The LibDem stall had the ever popular ‘crockery smash’ alongside the sale of plants and books. Ian Cuthbertson and Sarah Dixon enjoyed the chance to talk to local people and to help out on the stall. There were lots of customers, young and old, who smashed a load of old crockery!

A small team from Haxby Town Council were the hard workers who made it all happen and, near the end of the afternoon, Ian was asked to present a bouquet to Jenny Bell who had organised the event and led their team on the day. Ian thanked everyone for their hard work and congratulated those who were running the stalls on a tremendous effort. Everybody’s efforts had made it a very successful event.
