The 2010 Summer term brought the official opening of the new Joseph Rowntree School and good progress has been made on the demolition of the old buildings.
Haxby and Wigginton students and parents are really enthusiastic about the new school. Our young people are very positive about the new building and it provides wonderful facilities for them. Education is one of the most important services provided by the Council so to be able to move forward with a building like this is fantastic.
The opening of the new “JoRo” completes the Liberal Democrat City of York Council’s programme of three new secondary schools across York, one of the most impressive new school programmes across the country.
The new building is already winning prizes for its design and construction. It has won “Most Versatile Learning Environment Award”, a “York Design Award” and a place in the final in the “Innovation in Student Engagement Award”.
Clearly our outstanding new building is showing itself fit for the students of the 21st Century.
